City Harvest is the world's first food rescue organization, dedicated to feeding the city's hungry men, women and children.This year, City Harvest will collect 28 million pounds of excess food from all segments of the food industry, including restaurants, grocers, corporate cafeterias, manufacturers, and farms. This food is then delivered free of charge to nearly 600 community food programs throughout New York City using a fleet of trucks and bikes as well as volunteers on foot. Each week, City Harvest helps over 300,000 hungry New Yorkers find their next meal. City Harvest also addresses hunger’s underlying causes by supporting affordable access to nutritious food in low-income communities, educating individuals, families, and communities in the prevention of diet-related diseases, channeling a greater amount of local farm food into high-need areas, and enhancing the ability of agency partners to feed hungry men, women, and children. My Dream Bicycle

{Image via tumblr }
Riding a bicycle in New York City is dangerous but exciting considering the amount of cabs that fly past every moment. I would love to hop on a bicycle and be in Central Park in a matter of minutes, rather than taking the subway. I have been dying to buy a beautiful bicycle, and the one above is a total dream boat! I have no idea who makes it or where I can find it. I think this Spring I will find her though ... Somehow, someway.

The Best Vegan Bean Stew

Delicious left over vegan bean stew from last night's dinner. My husband and I happily stumbled upon a new restaurant in our neighborhood called Greensquare Tavern. They had originally opened as Greenmarket Tavern, only to discover that the city's Greenmarkets had trademarked the name. This farm-to-table restaurant uses only local products (with the exception of their wine list.) This vegan bean stew is packed with beans, kale, spinach, tomatoes, fresh herbs, lentils, garlic and surely a few more deliciously satisfying ingredients my uneducated palate cannot yet detect. Did I mention eating out in New York is my schooling for my palate? Do take a chic peek: Greensquare Tavern, 5 West 21st Street near 5th Avenue; 212.929.2468.

Daily Affirmation

Our little darling French Bulldog Dash is coming home later today from the hospital after major surgery. It has been a stressful process, but thankfully she is a tougher cookie than her human parents are. Apparently she has won the hearts of anyone that comes into contact with her (not surprising!) Today I need a little pick me up and reminder of everything I am blessed with, including our sweet heart Dash. Enjoy!

Aerin

Yesterday on my way to a dentist appointment I had the pleasure of riding the elevator with the beautiful New Yorker, Aerin Lauder. This grand daughter of Estee Lauder has been the SVP and Creative Director for Estee Lauder for years, and now is creating her own beauty brand under the name Aerin. She and her team were discussing the flooring in her office while riding up the elevator in the Fuller Building on 57th Street at Madison Avenue. I hear that Tom Ford also has offices in this building. I look forward to seeing her products as they are unveiled to the public. Surely they will be beautiful! For now, you can take a chic peek at her involvement with Estee Lauder www.esteelauder.com

New York Diet: Otto

Enoteca Otto Pizzeria is one of Mario Batali's famed restaurants on 8th Street and Fifth Avenue. It is a bustling, happy place full of young couples and families. The design of it is modeled after an Italian train station.The caprese salad and octopus, celery and lovage dishes were delicious (see my photos above). My husband had the Italian sausage pizza. I can't wait to continue my tour of Italy in NYC via Mr. Batali's restaurants. Take a chic peek at www.ottopizzeria.com

Gwyneth Paltrow - A New York Foodie

Rumor has it that the ultra glamourous NYC native Gwyneth Paltrow may be publishing a forthcoming food magazine. It would make sense if this is true, as she is dear friends with Mario Batali who helped her publish her new cook book lovingly titled My Father's Daughter. Considering the success of her GOOP newsletters, this would be a natural progression. Surely the magazine would sell lots of advertising ... not to mention that her contributors would be of the Elton John/Madonna set. The lady is connected, after all!  I sure hope this rumor is true, being a huge fan of hers. I would love to have more of a chic peek into her world, lovely family, her incredible trainer Tracy Anderson, insider tips and famous friends. Take a chic peek at her cookbook on Amazon.com

Doughnut Plant

There are two Doughnut Plant's in NYC, one in the Lower East Side on Grand Street and the other in the Hotel Chelsea on West 23rd Street. Both locations are usually marked by long lines. Mark Isreal started making doughnuts 16 years ago using an old family recipe. Yesterday I went with a friend and enjoyed one of their newest creations, an oatmeal doughnut. It was, in a word, spectacular. I heard from a neighbor that on Valentine's Day, they had a special edition with edible rose petals. There are ceramic doughnut tiles on the seats and walls, and gorgeous doughnut designed pillows on the walls above the tables. The most fun part about the interior of this doughnut haven is the washroom, which has a spinning disco ball and mirrors every way you look. I have a feeling I will visit just a little too often ... Take a chic peek http://www.doughnutplant.com/ their packaging and website are beautifully designed too.
Happy Weekend!
